Luke 19: 28–30
28 After this, Jesus, knowing[e] that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
Many of us drudge through our day unaware of the battles that goes on around us. Over 2000 years ago there was one Man, known as the Christ. While walking this earth for 33 years He was very aware of the wars that were being raged on our behalf – He was at the immediate center. His entire earthly experience was for you and I.
It ended with Him being nailed to a cross and killed for us. While on the cross He said “It is finished”, but was it? The act of dying on that cross was the necessary key to open the door of Salvation for all people. That unfortunate and necessary task was finished. The supreme and ultimate sacrifice was complete. In His finishing of the act, it was the beginning of our lives and freedom. The fulfillment that is available to any Christian, is only possible because of His sacrifice.
So, where His earthly life was finished, ours found it’s beginning. When celebrating Easter, let’s remember that we aren’t celebrating chocolate bunnies and marshmallow peeps, but the Salvation to live in freedom, that required our Savior’s death. That death was necessary for the resurrection. Although Christ said “It is finished”, while on the Cross, I imagine that He said “It has begun” when He walked out of the tomb.
I found this YouTube video set to the Barlow Girl’s “Enough” song. It’s a great video:
